Growing inside a greenhouse requires special attention to detail with your plants. We owned Alpine Organic Farm for 10 years and here is our advice for indoor growers.

Growing Tips

  • Watering

Do not water plants from above. Do not water the leaves. Water at the base of the plant over the roots below. Drip irrigation is the best way to water over time. A timer connected to the drip irrigation enables you to precisely deliver water to your plants. PH of your water is VERY IMPORTANT, maintain a PH of 7 if possible.

  • Fertilizing

We recommend a liquid fish fertilizer such as Neptune’s Harvest. Add this to your water at the base of each plant. We do not recommend this for greens, only larger individual plants. You can also foliar feed your plants with a sprayer applying directly to the leaves. This is the only situation in which you water from above.

  • Planting

Plant your seedlings or seeds to the recommended depth. if planting seedlings add mycorrhizae (1 teaspoon) into the bottom of the hole. Add soil and press everything firmly down with your hands. Once the seedling is established and growing, add beneficial nematodes in a liquid slurry to the base of the plant.

  • Potting Soil

For vegetables, mix 1 part compost, 1 part perlite or zeolite, and 3 parts peat moss. Hypnum peat moss is a perfect PH of 7. Spagnum peat moss is acidic. For citrus, mix 1 part sand, 1 part compost, and 3 parts pine needles.
